SUMMARY:Foundation Training Workshop: Exploring Embodied Identity with Bill Brown
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is intended for participants of PYP’s Foundational Training. If you would like to enroll in this training\, please visit the Foundational Training course description page. \n\nObjective: understand and experience interoceptive awareness and explore personal and social identity through interoceptive awareness. \nThis workshop will begin with a short practice emphasizing awareness of sensations within your body to introduce a fundamental concept of trauma-informed yoga\, interoception\, literally looking inward. The workshop will build on the experience of interoceptive awareness to explore identity from an embodied perspective through a unique take on the classic “Circles of Myself” activity. We’ll share how we experience our intersecting identities through our bodies and how we experience privilege and oppression. We’ll connect our personal experiences to implicit bias and systemic oppression. We’ll reflect on how our collective insight gained through these activities and discussion informs how we offer yoga and mindfulness for incarcerated people. \nWe will send a reminder email with a link to the workshop the day before the event.

SUMMARY:Foundation Training Workshop: Experiencing Yoga and the Nervous System with Bill Brown
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is intended for participants of PYP’s Foundational Training. If you would like to enroll in this training\, please visit the Foundational Training course description page. \n\nObjective: learn how to communicate the function of the nervous system in an easy-to-understand and experiential way. \nThis workshop explores yoga practice as a set of tools that allow us to engage in a conversation with our nervous system. We’ll discuss the triune or three-part model of the brain and explore this through embodied experience. We’ll also practice communicating this in an accessible way as we would when offering practices in a prison\, jail\, or other similar settings. \nWe will send a reminder email with a link to the workshop the day before the event.

SUMMARY:Foundation Training Workshop: Trauma and Incarceration with Bill Brown
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is intended for participants of PYP’s Foundational Training. If you would like to enroll in this training\, please visit the Foundational Training course description page. \n\nObjective: learn to recognize trauma\, including signs of vicarious trauma\, in the context of incarceration; articulate a simple plan for establishing an energetic boundary. \nThis workshop reflects on the connection between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and future incarceration. We also explore the traumatizing experience of being incarcerated and the trauma experienced by those who work in the system\, including correctional officers\, staff\, and program providers. And we will explore yoga as a practice for discharging traumatic experience and resisting the negative effects of systems of command and control through agency. \nWe will send a reminder email with a link to the workshop the day before the event.

SUMMARY:Foundation Training Workshop: Trauma-Informed Yoga Facilitation - Part 1 with Jen Lindgren
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is intended for participants of PYP’s Foundational Training. If you would like to enroll in this training\, please visit the Foundational Training course description page. \n\nObjective: incorporate interoceptive cues and create agency when guiding an embodied yoga practice; develop a deeper understanding of trauma-informed sequencing and invitational cueing. \nThis workshop will review the foundations of our approach to trauma-informed yoga and discuss how more “mainstream” approaches can be adapted to be more trauma-informed. We will discuss cueing specific poses in a trauma-informed style\, focusing on interoception and agency. No prior yoga teaching experience is required for this workshop\, though the focus of this workshop is primarily intended for yoga facilitators. \nWe will send a reminder email with a link to the workshop the day before the event.
