I am a specialist on detaching from my body I have ADHD and a lot of trauma and I tend to disassociate as a defense mechanism, some times I don't even notice when I'm already gone and catch my self several times bringing me back to here and now, so when someone attacks me or I need to react I don't even know it, I just go instantly into contention and when I realize that that someone is transgressing my boundaries usually is already to late and I already let them overstep me, so then my body goes into this victim and spiraling reaction of feeling extremely wounded and can't take my head out of there, it takes a lot of mindfulness to stay with the feelings, accept what happened cuz it is in the past and it can't be change anymore and if I stay in this I just end up torturing myself, so to get my self out of the commiseration I surrender it to G-d, I understand that it needed to happen for me to learn something and even if it feels wrong I always survive and evolve.

In a disagreement, I was able to identify that in my body I was beginning to feel closed off and panicky. I was able to say out loud "let's stop and start over". This allowed us to both acknowledge what was arising in our bodies and continue on through the conversation without letting it escalate.

I really like the idea of checking in with body checkpoints. I often do this before sleep to care for each area of my life.

I enjoyed this idea of stopping, letting go, then rolling with what comes. This could be helpful in high stress situations where it's not benefical and can be harmful to make an impulsive decision in that moment

It seems to me that the objective outlined by these practices is tremendously necessary, especially if we consider that they can be used in highly volatile and convulsive environments where being able to distance ourselves from our visceral reactions is not only prudent but necessary.

I'm reminded of responding as opposed to reacting which is often a lizard brain reflex. I liken responding to similar to the anchors. I'm also thinking as I type this as to the power of now. Being present and grounded before doing anything. Observation and acceptance. Allowance. I'm not referring to needing to jump out of the way of a train.

I love these practices. I have not had an opportunity to try them in a real life confrontation yet but I definitely need them. When I'm in a confrontation, I literally feel the cortisol rising and then spreading through my body and I am instantly wired for a fight. These practices will give me space to think before I react instead of trying to get back to the place they could have taken me after the damage is done. I can see so many moments in my life that if I had used these practices incidents would have turned out very differently.
