Hi everyone,
I was able to participate live for the first part of class but had to leave early for an appointment. I'm so glad that these recordings are available! I really enjoyed this session, as I was having some doubts that I'm ready to lead and that I really know what trauma informed yoga is. I am very fortunate that I've been able to attend 3 PYP sessions a week at my place of employment. This quickly became one of my favorite parts of my job and I look forward to this class, and PYP, every week. I find it helpful to address unspoken, underlying truths that we become accustomed to, so this class helped me by reinforcing what I have been so fortunate to learn through our class and experience working with PYP.

I see the truth of this class every day in my work. It's so important to attune to my clients' emotions and medical needs to support them in their health and wellness. I really appreciate the emphasis on co-regulation and the power of presence. These have been such essential components of my work. It feels comforting and validating to hear that spoken aloud, so Jen, I thank you for this!

Understanding the role of psychiatric medication is an important component of this work. As an aside - for anyone who, like me, struggles with chemistry, there is a great book called Psych Meds Made Simple, by Ashley L. Peterson, that I can't recommend enough. It has helped me and my clients immensely. It is written from a perspective of lived experience, and addresses issues of stigma toward those with mental illness and who benefit from psychiatric medication.

Lastly, I am SO glad that I got to experience Liz's Reiki presentation. Reiki keeps coming up with my clients, and I got to have such a wonderful orientation to help me understand this practice. Thank you Liz, for sharing this with us and for making it accessible online.

@erin-m-brophy Thank you for taking part in it!  Reiki is very powerful and I recommend it highly for your practice.  It can transform it in beautiful ways.  I teach levels 1 and 2 so that you can use it for yourself and be able to offer it to your clients.  It is only a 2 to 21/2 day process and it is effective for a lifetime!

Peace and joy,

Liz

I had so much fun with y’all for the short time I was able to attend. That day I woke up and affirmed Thursday would be centered around Sauncha-Purity. “The desire which realizes itself is always a desire upon which attention is exclusively concentrated” N. Goddard. I was not going to settle for the accepted views or the world as it showed up today. I was going to hold my attention to what is true for me and whatever tasks I had that day would be incorporated around me not the other way around. I could feel myself feeling myself and it didn’t matter if i wasn’t getting “work” done lol work was being done for me, myself, and I. I genuinely could resonate with the personal experiences and tears shed. I love when Liz reaffirmed that no one who works from the heart will be without, Letting go and embracing demolitions. if i hadn’t had the rug yanked out from under me by every person I loved and trusted (especially these last couple of years) I would not be here in the cohort. Synchronicity is amazing. Like Liz mentioned these come at me brah’s lol I totally get it, nothing is more exhilarating for me than overcoming a crisis. I no longer feel the need of playing it safe.

The breakout room was awesome. Thank you ladies for your generous mentorship.

The additional ways to support transitioning participants was inspiring. It had me wanting to become a AVP volunteer! AVP is Alternatives to Violence Project. Some of the incarcerated guys I have helped have attended these and always have raved (yes, raved lol cause their awareness was just dancing) to me about this program. Also, the offerings for participants in recovery/or medicated brought me back to  when I was fostering and rehabilitating “red zone” Pit Bull Terriers from shelters/rescues. The staying low, slow movements, voice, and mindfulness of postures. In’ My Grandmother’s Hands” he refers to the oldest part of our brain as the lizard brain so I am interested if there is a possible connection.  All in all what a super insight full discussion. I saved Liz’s healing practice for this evening when I can truly be present because I just know it is powerful.

I did have a question about finishing the program. If we are still on a payment plan, will we be able to apply with PYP/move forward or does this need to be paid in full?  How does  PYP as a whole feel about sharing this information via social media or other ways? Using the material to reference by, not so much publication? What is prohibited?

@vigilsarah6gmail-com Hello Sarah & thank you for your questions about payment plans! Basically for those of you who opted for a payment plan, that just continues as set up by you, but does not impact any invitation to join PYP or have access to materials, mentorship, or becoming a facilitator. The only small impact, is that your official un-watermarked 200Hr Certificate is shared once your payment plan is complete.

YTT  5/22 recording

Saddened to hear people are not being supported in this work.

Things you cannot research in the US anymore???!!!!

Appreciative of everyone sharing how this YTT has affected them.

Celebrating Tasha’s housing!!!

Exploring questions:

Addicted, disregulated, medicated

Holding the space where no officers have to intervene.

Regulating the room not the person.

Each of our nervous systems are the best way to regulate the room or someone who is experiencing crisis to deactivate the event.

Maybe bring in a chair practice for predictability and be very clear at what you are offering:  ie: we are going to do this for 2 minutes and then we are going to do this…

Don’t force stillness.  Can always have a little bit of movement and swaying.

Make sure everyone can make eye contact.  This might be a good place to spread out the circle.

Very simple predictable energetic awareness and more self assisting.  Ie hands on shoulders when doing shoulder circles.

Inviting respect while holding clear boundaries

Intentionally not creating a quiet space until it eases into that.

Start with a group agreement:

Respect the space

One voice at a time

We all have a different yoga body

Reinforce boundaries with kindness

Name what I am doing as the instructor: I’m making space for everyone

Praise respectful engagement

Sequence tips for participants on medications that might impact their practice:

Chair or low to the ground.  Too much up and down is more unregulating.

Build slow rhythmic flow

Focus on breath and body awareness

Use soothing repetition

Clear slow transitions

End with integration.  Might be a longer savasana .

Yoga is about presence not performance.

Everyone must feel safe and supported including me so utilize resources that are available.

Timeframe template is appreciated!

Thank you, LIZ for that lovely sacred healing reiki practice!!!
