This lecture revealed to me not just now little I know about the different parts and systems of me, but also how little I know about how they work together and need each other to collectively keep me up and running (or resting). Attending to the muscular system only goes so far if you don't also attend to the skeletal system and make time to care for your respiratory system -- and all of the different organs and ligaments and muscles and bones and breath and arteries and capillaries that need each other and need to be known and felt and cared for for us to be okay. I'm struck by the fact that every skeletal system is different despite the fact that I've pretty much only been fed one standard male skeletal model my whole life. I'm struck by the vulnerability of the spine and how much is needed at a cellular/muscular/fascial level to keep us upright, bending, rotating, etc. Feeling stuck in fight or flight mode my whole life, I also began to believe that my body wasn't designed or supposed to move in a lot of ways in this lifetime. I had to rewatch the video multiple times where it said our muscles exist to provide movement to really open myself up to the idea that I might be able to find movement and strength and choice and growth where I haven't known possible. It seems so simple but the reminder that I can move at my own pace and practice at my own will using my own agency is so freeing! I am literally designed to move and mu muscular system is proof. <3 Knowledge of the diversity of anatomy will absolutely make me more mindful when facilitating. (Also, breathwork/asana is new to me and I'm so excited to explore the different breaths offered in this lecture and beyond and see how they feel for me. Exploring breath is cool once you realize you have it..)
