Rewriting Myths of Public Safety with Victoria Law

Victoria Law, author of Prison by Any Other Name and her most recent title, Prisons Make Us Safer, is interviewed about her work, who inspires her, and her motivations.

When asked about public safety in regards to the US Prison system, Law responds,

” If prisons kept us safe, then the U.S. should be the safest nation in the world. That’s obviously not the case but it’s a persistent myth that tugs at people’s fears about violence and safety.”

Victoria Law’s main focus and point of study over the past decade has been gender issues in regards to our prison industrial complex and our overall justice system. She thoughtfully takes time to bring the viewer through a blend of restorative justice and transformative justice views and practices.
