Prison Yoga Project Highlights Global Impact at “More Yoga, Better World” Yoga Alliance Conference
In September, Luisa Perez Escobedo, Director of Prison Yoga Project (PYP) Mexico, represented PYP at Yoga Alliance’s “More Yoga, Better World” conference, participating in a panel on “What is Yoga?” The discussion focused on the broad reach of yoga beyond traditional studios, showcasing its power to transform lives in diverse environments, including correctional facilities and historically marginalized communities.
Leading Prison Yoga Project’s efforts in Mexico, Luisa has advanced our mission to offer trauma-sensitive yoga to individuals affected by systemic injustice and deep trauma across the region. Through her unique combination of expertise as a Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) facilitator and human rights attorney, Luisa brings PYP’s core values to life by teaching yoga in federal and local maximum security prisons, supporting survivors of sexual violence, and offering trauma-sensitive practices to relatives of disappeared Mexican citizens. Her work directly aligns with PYP’s global mission: using trauma-informed yoga as a means of fostering healing, self-awareness, and community restoration for those affected by the criminal justice system.
We are honored to have been part of the conference and deeply appreciate Yoga Alliance’s vision of making yoga accessible to all. As a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance, Prison Yoga Project remains committed to expanding our reach and supporting more communities around the world, believing in yoga’s potential to foster a healing-centered world.
🙂 thank you!
