Exploring Trauma-Adapted Yoga in Forensic Psychiatric Care

July 12 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am PDT

Free

Join us for a warm and insightful webinar as we delve into groundbreaking research conducted in Sweden, exploring the transformative potential of trauma-adapted yoga (TAY) within forensic psychiatric care. This unique study, the first of its kind globally, offers compelling evidence on how yoga can serve as a complementary intervention for individuals with severe psychiatric conditions.

Forensic psychiatry involves the assessment and treatment of individuals with severe psychiatric disorders who are incarcerated, focusing on those whose conditions contributed to their criminal behavior and who are legally mandated to receive psychiatric care.

Conversation hosted by our Executive Director, Nicole Hellthaler, with our guests, Josefin Wikstrom and Nóra Kerekes, will share the background and significance of their study, the principles and practices of TAY, and the significant outcomes, including improvements in physiological well-being, self-control, and emotional stability among participants. Josefin Wikstrom, our European Program Director, facilitates Trauma-Adaptive Yoga (TAY) sessions for hundreds of incarcerated participants in Sweden each week.

You can read about the impact and research here.

We will discuss the practical applications of these findings and the potential for wider adoption of TAY as a therapeutic intervention. Whether you are a healthcare professional, yoga facilitator, or simply interested in innovative therapeutic approaches, this webinar promises to offer valuable knowledge and inspiration.
