Hello, I haven't seen the email with last weeks
I have also been thinking the same.
Jen, can you please email/post last week's class recording. I was able to attend only a portion of it and want to try and complete the rest today, if possible. Thank you!
Hello Jen and everyone!
It’s been quiet after Thursday. I couldn’t participate and been looking forward to do so with the recording. I hope that everything is all right! <3
I continue to enjoy the soulful sharing of the community and deep teachings
January 22nd Recording Reflection
I was so grateful for the open dialogue in today’s class. I connected with a fellow student’s reflection on the discomfort surrounding the “tall, skinny, white woman” stereotype. If we are committed to creating spaces that are truly inclusive, I think it’s important to consider everyone’s experiences, even those who may appear to come from positions typically labeled as “privileged.”
Another topic that stood out to me even more was the conversation about how harmful stereotypes can be. In my own experience growing up in foster care, when I have shared that part of my story, people often responded with disbelief, saying they never would have guessed. While that reaction may come from different assumptions, it felt minimizing. It suggested that hardship has a certain “look,” and that my experiences were somehow less valid because I didn’t fit that image. It made me feel as though I had to present in a particular way for my suffering to be recognized as real.
I believe it’s essential to name and examine privilege, but I also think it’s just as important to deconstruct stereotypes, since they can be equally harmful. I’m grateful that someone voiced their discomfort and that we were able to engage in an open, respectful conversation about differing perspectives while remaining receptive to new ways of understanding. I’m learning so much from being a part of this cohort and I am just so grateful to be here to learn and grown with the collective group.
