    Good morning everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well in your neck of the woods (albeit with restrictions in place) and that we’re all still finding so many things in life to be grateful for.

I wanted to share with you a link to a project here in Tasmania, Australia, which is a first of it’s kind and is based on the “The Concept of Therapeutic Jurisprudence”. https://aija.org.au/research/resources/the-concept-of-therapeutic-jurisprudence/

The project is called “The Freedom Project” https://www.kickstartarts.org/the-freedom-project and Maria Jude, who has dedicated herself to trauma informed/sensitive yoga and other modalities for a very long time, will be running these classes in this Court Mandated Diversion Program (The Court Mandated Diversion Program is a sentencing option in the Magistrate’s and Supreme Court which allows eligible and suitable offenders to be sentenced to correctional treatment within the community as opposed to serving a custodial sentence. Freedom Project placements will also be offered to suitable clients on parole or probation orders).

Maria also is the yoga facilitator I’m working with in Tasmania who will be delivering classes in two pilot programs (in a female and male correctional facility) which we’re about to commence in the coming weeks.

I guess the exciting news about all of this is that there is now a potential avenue for people who are released on parole, and who have been taking on the classes whilst incarcerated, to continue their practice on the outside, in the community, and in an environment that feels ‘safe’, and with an approach to the delivery of these classes that is trauma-informed and sensitive to their needs.

I hope you guys find this information useful .

    Warmest regards,

    Sonia (PYP – Australia)
